Nordend is the district of Frankfurt am Main which is divided for statistical purposes into Nordend-West, and Nordend-Ost. It is generally regarded as one entity. Together with Westend and Bahnhofsviertel as well as Ostend, the district is part of Frankfurt's densely populated inner city. Nordend was gentrified by the renovation of old buildings. This led to the displacements of students and workers.
Nordend-West lies between Eschersheimer Landstrasse and Friedberger Landstrasse. Bornheim is to the east, and Westend in the west. Bertramswiese, Kuhhornshofweg and Bertramswiese mark the northern border of Dornbusch. The main cemetery forms the boundary between Eckenheim and Dornbusch.
It is densely populated with 53,460 people on a relatively small area. Nordend is the district with the highest population density of the Frankfurt area, and the second largest number of residents in absolute terms after Sachsenhausen.
Mobypark provides affordable and convenient parking for Nordend-West residents and visitors, so they don't have to worry about expensive parking fees or finding parking spots.
The Hauptfriedhof is one of the largest green spaces in Nordend-West. It's a 75-hectare graveyard located between Eckenheimer Landstrasse, and Friedberger Landstrasse. The Hauptfriedhof encloses a portion of the Jewish Cemetery Rat-Beil-Strasse to the southeast. The Holzhausenpark, with the Holzhausenschlosschen, is situated at the western end of the district. The Gunthersburgpark, and Bethmannpark in the eastern part are both worth visiting. The Bethmannpark is directly adjacent to the Friedberger Anlage which is part the Frankfurt Wallanlagen. The park also houses the Chinese Garden of Heavenly Peace since 1989, one of only a few Chinese gardens in Germany.
Nordend-West is home to several other buildings worth visiting. The "Funkhaus am Dornbusch" is one of the most well-known. The building was originally intended to be the German Bundestag's home shortly after World War II. Construction of the future Plenary Hall began immediately adjacent to an existing building complex for a former teacher-training institution. The round building, however, was transformed into a broadcasting centre for the Hessian Radio Broadcasting Corporation when Frankfurt narrowly missed out on the capital question. The redesign only affected the façade and foyer intended for the Bundestag ("Gold Hall").
