History
The Hopital Bicetre dates back to the 17th Century when Louis XIII constructed an establishment to house injured soldiers and officers on the ruins a castle. The hospital was first a hospice in 1656. It then became a prison and finally, a mental institution.
Renovations were undertaken to improve the hygiene and circulation of the building. In 1952, the first French pediatric cardiology service was established in France. The hospital was selected in 1962 to be the fourth section of Assistance Publique - Hopitaux de Paris.
The former buildings have been classified as historical monuments by decrees of March 8, 1982 (Le Mercier Pavilions, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Gate and Champs Gate, vaulted passages, wooden doors and The Grand Well), inscribed March 8, 1992 (Facades, roofs, remains of dungeons; ancient Force, old Presbytery, Ancient Sacristy, Ancient Laundry, primitive wells, 19th-century divisions and floors in the old enclosure); and inscribed
In the 1970s a renovation programme was initiated, and many pavilions were destroyed. Andre Bourdon was the architect who designed a new University Hospital Center (CHU) based on a program from America. The buildings were completed within the deadline despite the program modifications requested by our client. This included the "75" program.

University Center
The Hopital Bicetre is a medical school run by the Paris-Saclay University. The first year of medical studies (PACES), is completed in Orsay, Chatenay and Malabry.
