De Oude Warande, a Tilburg neighborhood, is located between Tilburg Universiteit Station and Reeshof, south of the Tilburg - Breda railway line. The area is named for the park created by Willem VIII in 1712, which dates back to the 18th century. It is one of only a few star forests that are still intact in the Netherlands. The park was designed in baroque style and is inspired by Andre le Notre's designs.
The star forest consists of eight lanes arranged in a star shape, which are surrounded by four other lanes forming a square measuring approximately 70 hectares. In the 1980s the park was renovated for nearly 20 years. The old lanes were restored and sick trees removed. Also, the pond that had been sanded over was deepened. The baroque style is evident in the park's symmetrical rectangular lane pattern that originates from a central statue garden.
The boundaries of the park are not defined. Outside the lane square, the land is less cultivated and has more forest than park. The park can be accessed via a 5-point road network, as well as the 1,17 km2 university campus. The Breda Railway Line borders the De Oude Warande neighbourhood to the north, which results in a smaller space. Parking spaces and tennis court are located along Warandelaan on the south side of this neighborhood.
