Gay Pride Amsterdam 2022 : Parades, Parties and Parking

26-07-2016

Amsterdam Gay Pride is one of the biggest annual events in the Netherlands and attracts more than 500,000 people to the Dutch capital. Gay Pride is an event which promotes and educates people about LGBTQ rights and communities. With its magnificent canal parade, magnetism for a myriad of diverse people and subcultures, and atmosphere of liberty, libido and love, it will be one of the most unique, incredible city experiences you will have. It is best to be fully prepared for this week, right down to what you will wear, where you will go, and how to arrange accommodation, transportation and parking.

Canal Parade

When and where?

August 7 2022 (13:00 - 17:00)

Floats will start at 12:30 from Oosterdok, ride via the Nieuwe Herengracht, the Amstel river, the Prinsengracht and finish at the Westerdok at 17:00.

About?

It would be a crime to miss Amsterdam's Canal Parade if you are in the city during this time. The huge annual celebration is the main event around which all the other festivals and parties are organised. It is the only floating Gay Pride parade in the world and is truly spectacular. Thousands of people sit and stand along the route of the floats, so it is advisable to find a spot at least 1.5 hours before the parade is due to begin. Participants will be seen floating on the long route on many beautifully decorated barges, providing you with extremely colourful and exuberant views. They will be showcasing themes that convey the message of freedom, equality and love, this year with a focus on human rights.

Of course, you also need to think about the practicalities of attending Gay Pride. There are many more people in the city during this time and the Amsterdam hospitality industry works hard to cater for that. There is also a lot of information out there about which Amsterdam neighbourhood to stay in, and whether to book an Amsterdam Airbnb or an Amsterdam hotel.
