Boondaal, also known as Boondaal-Bosvoorde or Watermaal-Bosvoorde is a neighborhood in the Brussels-Capital Region. It is located primarily in Ixelles with some parts in Brussels City and Watermaal-Bosvoorde. Boondaal lies between Ter Kamerenbos and Johannalaan. It also includes the Armand Huysmanslaan and the section between Boondaal Station, the intersection of Railway Line 161, and Railway Line 26. This area, which was also called Solbos in the north, reached Waversesteenweg.
Boondaal's history dates back to the year 1234, when it was still a rural hamlet in the Duchy Ukkel. Willem van Hulstbosch built a chapel in the 15th century. The hamlet prospered in the 15th and 16th century, thanks to the beer industry. During religious unrest the chapel was destroyed multiple times, but it was always rebuilt. The beer industry eventually moved to Ixelles and became more important than Boondaal. Under French rule in 1795, Boondaal and the hamlets of Lower Ixelles and Upper Ixelles were brought closer to Brussels by being placed within the municipality of Ixelles. The Boondaal Chapel was rebuilt into its present form in 1842. Boondaal was rural during the 19th century while Ixelles continued to urbanize and francize Brussels. Urbanization reached Boondaal after World War I. In 1940, the new St. Adrianus Church in Boondaal was built.
Boondaal has a number of sights, such as the Chapel of Boondaal and the Old Linde Square. The 1940 St. Adrianus Church and the Auberge De Boondael are also worth seeing. This former farmhouse and inn dates back to 18th century.
Boondaal can be reached easily by public transport. Boondaal Station lies along Railway Line 26 and Franklin Rooseveltlaan is to the west, which is part of the southern exit from Brussels N24.
