Strijp is an Eindhoven neighborhood located in Noord-Brabant province, historically it served as an independent municipality until 1920, with 29,168 people as of January 1, 2013. Like other neighborhoods within Eindhoven, Strijp had its own neighborhood office until budget cuts necessitated closing them and merging into one service center at Begijnhof. Unfortunately Eindhoven neighborhoods do not enjoy as much autonomy compared to Amsterdam or Rotterdam and do not feature neighborhood councils for leadership purposes.

Strijp can refer to either "stripe" or "row", and refers to an arrangement of houses or farms. Unfortunately, not much is known about Strijp's medieval history; first mentioned as such in 1303 document from Duke Jan II of Brabant. Excavations carried out in 2001 revealed tree-stump wells dating from 8th century and 6th century Shards were discovered; yet no evidence was found for continuous occupation during period 900-1225 as no remains from these periods were located; older finds date back even further: Roman times around 200 AD as well as Bronze Age (1500 BC), Mesolithic Era (6000 BC).

At first, it was an agricultural settlement. Over time, its area expanded through land development. Later in the 19th century, companies like Elias' trijp factory started setting up shop here. Starting in 1918, Philips expanded in its local environment beginning with the Strijp-S complex and building housing neighborhoods like Philipsdorp and Drents Dorp. After Eindhoven annexed Strijp in 1920, its inhabitants gradually integrated with city life; though parts of Sint-Trudoplein retain much of the character of an older village center. Over the second half of the 20th century new housing neighborhoods such as Lievendaal and Het Ven were developed for housing purposes; later that decade Meerhoven emerged and several large industrial areas were developed as well.
