City officials were hopeful that De Koppel would provide relief from a housing shortage; however, much of what had once been traced by the Grebbelinie, an ancient fortification system which once traversed this area, has since been subsumed into residential landscape. Only Hooglandsedijk runs alongside Moerasgebied Hooglandsedijk serves as a reminder. Moerasgebiedje is now home to an attractive nature reserve.
