Kostverloren is a neighborhood located in Amstelveen in the Netherlands. Specifically, this location lies to the northeast of the city, to the south of Kronenburg office district and north of A9 as well as east and west of Beneluxbaan and Amstel rivers.
This area was initially part of Middelpolder and used as an agricultural area until the end of 1950s. The name "Kostverloren" can be traced back to 16th-century when there was a castle known as Billenburg located there; eventually however, this castle was sold off and replaced by Sloterdijk.
In 1959, the then Municipality Nieuwer-Amstel designated a western portion of Middelpolder for housing development by adopting Bankras/Kostverloren expansion plan approved by local council. The neighborhood was planned as a garden city comprising four residential areas consisting primarily of single family homes with some midrise buildings and highrise apartments along its eastern edge; lots of green space including parks and water features with special paths designed to slow traffic down while keeping Middelpolder landscape intact on one side.
