The park's completion, according to the winning design, took several years and opened on May 14, 2009. Further enhancements were made in 2019, with a total investment of approximately 1.6 million euros. The majority of the funding came from compensatory measures for various construction projects, with the Deutsche Bahn contributing about 65% of the total cost.

The character of the park is shaped by the Klinkermauer (brick wall) on Gartenstrasse and the remnants of the former Hinterlandmauer (hinterland wall).
