Theatre du Centaure began in 1989 when Manolo founded the company. He also wrote the theoretical basis for the relationship between horse and man, resulting in the Centaur actor concept. Camille and Manolo joined forces in 1992 to create the first practical research labs. They then began to direct the productions and films of Theatre du Centaure.
The company was invited to Marseille in 1995 and focused its efforts on adapting existing plays. After ten years, in 1998, the men and horses of Jean Genet's "Les Bonnes", with three Centaurs, created it together, in a Louis XV-style living room. The show toured France for three full years.
In 2001, the theater tent in Marseille was designed specifically for Centaur actor Patrick Bouchain, in collaboration. The idea to build a special place for the creative approach of the company sprang up at the same time that the company began working on an adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth. The play was written for 12 Centaur actors.
In 2002 and 2003, "Macbeth", the touring show, performed at several festivals, including the In Festivals in Avignon, Lyon, Marseille and Aurillac. The company focused on creating original works, and art videos gradually became linked to the performances of the actors on stage.
In 2004, the company started a residency in Morocco to create "Cargo". The show premiered in Montpellier at Printemps des Comediens, with three Centaur performers, in 2005. It then toured nationally and internationally, including Germany, Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium and so on, until 2009.
Flux was created in 2007, combining live performances, textual fragments, and art films. In Terschelling, Berlin and other cities, the first writing phase was accompanied by the filming. The Flux project in 2008 was split into smaller in situ forms and filmed in different European cities. There were also other films made.
The company was in residence from 2008-2009 to create "Otto Witte", written by playwright Fabrice melquiot, for Centaur actors and musicians.
