Tussendijken, located west of Rotterdam in the Delfshaven borough, is a neighborhood. The neighborhood has a population of 14,500 and is bordered to the east by the Delfshavense Schie, southwest by the Hudsonstraat, and northwest by the Mathenesserweg. The neighborhood is divided in two: Bospolder located south of Schiedamseweg and Tussendijken located north of Schiedamseweg.
The history of the neighborhood is rich. It began in 1910, when the Schiedamseweg from Delfshaven's Aelbrechtskolk was constructed. Tussendijken is a large part of social housing built by architect J.J.P. The neighborhood was finished in 1930. The western part of the neighbourhood was severely damaged by an allied bombing on March 31, 1943. It was rebuilt in 1950.
In the last 30 year, the population of Tussendijken changed dramatically. Many immigrants moved into the area. Now, they are the majority. In the 1980s, old houses were also demolished to make way for newer construction.
