Charlois is a neighborhood located along the southern bank of Rotterdam's Maas river, previously a separate municipality until 2014 when it officially became one of Rotterdam's districts. By July 31, 2017 Charlois had 66,750 inhabitants occupying 11.9 square kilometers. As of July 31, 2017, its borders included A15 in the south, Eemhaven in the west, Nieuwe Maas and Maashaven in the north; Dordtselaan Strevelsweg Vaanweg forms its borders with Feijenoord; finally Vaanweg (A29) formed its boundaries with IJsselmonde.

Charlois boasts a rich and longstanding history dating back to before 1200. First known inhabitants were identified as De Reijerwaard by Philip of Burgundy and given to Charles the Bold by Philip himself in 1458. By 1873, Katendrecht which had previously surrounded Charlois on three sides had been abolished and added directly into Charlois; and eventually in 1895 Charlois itself was annexed by Rotterdam who immediately started developing a large harbor area on what had previously been agricultural land.

Charlois offers several metro stations: Slinge, Zuidplein and Maashaven as well as its end point (Kromme Zandweg) of tram line 2, bus 70's final destination Garage Sluisjesdijk as well as tram 25 passing over Slinge to Barendrechtse Vinex-neighborhood Carnisselande to its east. Also located here are shopping center Zuidplein and events hall Ahoy.
