Blijdorpse Polder is a neighborhood located in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It is bordered by Delfshavense Schie in the west, Schie-Schiekanaal to its north, Rotterdam-Utrecht railway line to its east and Rotterdam-Schiedam railway line to its south; although its original boundaries included much more land that now makes up Blijdorp neighborhood as well as Overschie and Schie-Schiekanaal.

At first, this area was mostly marshy and uninhabited with regular flooding; eventually the name "Blidorpse polder" was adopted, later changing to "Blydorpsche polder," before finally taking its present form of "Blijdorpse polder."

From 1150-1880, Delft, Rotterdam and Schiedam engaged in disputes regarding waterways and tolls, which eventually resulted in the digging of Schiekanalen between 1150-1389 in order to create additional polders in the area. Rotterdam Schie, dug in 1344 by Pieter van Tilborght in 1344, produced both Blijdorpse Polder (or Bergpolder in Dutch) as well as Blydorpsche Polder; this area formed part of Overschie's independent municipality; its sole significant development on marshy land was 18th-century Oud-Walenburg.

Steven Hoogendijk, a clockmaker from Rotterdam, attempted a failed steam engine test at Oostpoort before persevering and eventually being granted permission by the polder board to build it in Blijdorpse polder. On September 15, 1787, the engine was completed and put into operation; its capacity was 1750 cubic feet per minute. Cool, Schoonderloo and Blommersdijk experienced severe waterlogging during this year and by connecting to this steam engine they could pump out 1.5 months' worth of excess water, below summer levels. Unfortunately for farmers of the polder this was at great cost and only used intermittently throughout the year - leading them to be unhappy about this investment decision.
