The Liskwartier is a neighborhood located in Rotterdam's northern region with approximately 7500 residents. Part of Rotterdam-Noord, its name was inspired by Lischwater (now only remaining as a pond at Lisplein), while streets, lanes, and singels follow original ditches to form its shape. Development began shortly after changing borders with Hillegersberg municipality in 1903 - today this neighborhood is bound by Bergweg, Noorderkanaal and Hofpleinlijn viaduct.

Schiebroekselaan, Rodenrijselaan and Bergselaan were established after 1906 and completed in 1940 as part of Liskwartier neighborhood. There were initially two hospitals located there: Eudokia hospital and Bergwegziekenhuis (also on Bergweg). Both hospitals merged with other hospitals and eventually left the Liskwartier, with their buildings eventually being demolished. At the corner of Bergsingel and Bergselaan stands Bergsingelkerk - designed by architect Tjeerd Kuipers in 1913 and officially opened for use in 1915 before receiving municipal monument status in 2000. Directly opposite to this church on the other side of Bergsingel lies a building housing Islamic University of Rotterdam since 2003.
