Leidseweg runs from Westplein up to Kennedylaan along the southern bank Leidse Rijn in Utrecht, the Dutch city. Leidseweg originally ran from Catharijnesingel up to the city limit. After the construction of Amsterdam-Elten railroad, the road was divided into Leidseweg West and Leidseweg East. Leidseweg-Oost now forms part of Smakkelaarsveld. Van Sijpesteijnkade is the new name for Leidseweg West between Westplein and the railway.
Merwedekanaal construction further divided the Leidseweg. The road runs now from Westplein, Dambrug, and Muntkade to the Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt. On the other side of Leidse Rijn, the Leidsekade is parallel to the Leidseweg. Side streets that are part of the Leidseweg first part include the Krugerstraat and Koningsbergerstraat. The second part of Leidseweg extends from Kanaalweg up to Pijperlaan where it turns into Kennedylaan. The Oude Leidseweg is 140 meters down the road. It is approximately 230 m long. The side streets that make up the second part are the Bartoklaan, the Ravellaan and the Mozartlaan. A new bridge has replaced the old Dambrug over the Leidse Rijn at the Leidsekade and Damstraat corner.
