Parking near Nobelstraat

The Nobelstraat runs from Drift and Janskerkhof through Utrecht city center to Stadsbuitengracht. Along its length are side streets such as Ambachtstraat, Keizerstraat, Muntstraat Lange Jufferstraat and Nobeldwarsstraat.

The Nobelstraat boasts an illustrious past, possibly dating back to 1300 and first mentioned in records as early as 1393. Although known by various names over time (Zonstraat being among them until it was changed into Nobelstraat during the 19th century) its current moniker dates only from 1691.

For centuries, the eastern end of this street was blocked by city walls which were eventually demolished during the 19th century. In 1859, Lucasbrug bridge was constructed at Lucasbolwerk before it was replaced with a wider stone bridge in 1873. During medieval times, its western end extended to Sint-Jan's immunity while its eastern portion fell under his jurisdiction while that of Sint-Pieter.

Since 1886, part of Nobelstraat had been known as Zonstraat - possibly after Utrecht-based Van Zon family - until 1889 when it was widened once again and an electric tram ran along it from 1908. Before 1908 however, a horse-drawn tram ran along this one-way street; nowadays it forms part of Binnenstadsas as part of which traffic from city center is directed east via one-way streets; post Lucasbrug this one becomes Nachtegaalstraat which eventually becomes Burgemeester Reigerstraat before eventually reaching Wilhelminapark.
