Vogelenbuurt's unique layout, with its strong orientation to the northeast, was created by using the existing area structure as a starting point. For a long period of time, the Koekoekstraat and the Noorderbrug were the only connections to the city centre. In 1934, Duifstraat became a road connecting the city center with the surrounding neighborhoods.
