The Hague's Escamp borough is home to the neighborhood of Lage Veld. It was one of the three Haagse Vinex sites, built between 1996-2012 in the former Wateringse Veldpolders. It is bordered on three sides by Bouwlust (Vrederust), Morgenstond, and Vrederust.
The land of Lage Veld was originally part the municipality of Wateringen. It was used primarily for greenhouse farming. The Hague annexed the area in 1994. The area is divided into the sub-neighborhoods Erasmus Veld (also known as Hoge Veld), Parkbuurt Oosteinde (also known as Lage Veld), and Zonne Veld.
Archaeological digs revealed that this area was inhabited from Roman times. Four Roman landmarks dating from the 2nd century AD and 3rd centuries AD were discovered in 1997. In 1999, the first tram, line 17, reached the neighborhood. In 2007, the tram line 16 from Moerwijk was extended and it now includes the Laan van Wateringse Veld.
