Parking near Moerwijk-Noord

Moerwijk-Noord, a neighborhood of The Hague in the Escamp borough, is located to the north of Wateringse Veld. The neighborhood is bordered with Wateringse Veld Morgenstond Zuiderpark Groente- en Fruitmarkt Laakkwartier and Spoorwijk. Willem Dudok designed the architectural style of this neighborhood, which was constructed before and after World War II.

In 2009, 49% of residents were non-natives, but in 2018, 75% had a migration history. Moerwijk has a diverse mix of cultures and ethnicities.

The area was built largely according to Dudok’s plan in 1949 with the aim of connecting Moerwijk 1 (the area built before 1940) to The Hague's main road system. Around the central Erasmusplein were four neighborhoods, each of which had different amenities, such as a shopping center, a park, or a school. Around the Heeswijkplein, and Betje Wolfstraat were the two biggest shopping centers. Smaller centers of 5-10 stores were also built around the Westhovenplein/Raaphorstlaan, Jan Luykenlaan, and Loevesteinlaan. These smaller centers were demolished later in order to reinforce the larger shopping centers.

Many of the corner shops in Moerwijk 1, which were once characteristic, were converted to homes during the 1990s. In the 1980s, a monastery was located on the corner between Reviusstraat and Troelstrakade and Erasmusweg. It was later demolished and replaced by a curved building.

There have been several plans in recent years to renovate and rebuild certain parts of Moerwijk. However, these plans were often hampered by a lack of funding and a slow housing market. There have been renovations in the area and some new construction.
