Instead, Staedion Corporation decided to renovate these houses into student housing instead, starting the renovation process in 2011 which has since been completed.

After the opening of the Amsterdam-The Hague railway line in 1843, its impact could be felt throughout Rijswijk and nearby areas. Some were willing to cede their land voluntarily to The Hague because Rijswijk only had two police officers and felt too far from its station. In 1862, The Hague planned and built Stationsweg and Huijgenspark and grand houses around its station. Plans were then made for an entire neighborhood beginning with Oranjeplein; an idyllic green square filled with grand houses. Wealthy residents found the area too damp, fearing they'd get sick and thus leading to sales being reduced. Workers brought into the city during the industrial revolution settled around Oranjeplein instead; as government interference didn't allow speculators who built large numbers of cheap, poorly constructed homes (known as revolution construction ) from developing it further.
