Rivierenbuurt-Zuid and Rivierenbuurt-Noord, together known as Rivierenbuurt, are neighborhoods in The Hague's Stationsbuurt district located within Centrum borough.
Rivierenbuurt lies just outside of Den Haag City Centre and is defined by three landmarks - Bernhardviaduct and Schedeldoekshaven to its northwest, Spui and Haagvliet in its southwest corner, and Den Haag Centraal and Den Haag Hollands Spoor via their connecting route - on its northwest, southwest and northeast corners respectively. Main roads in this neighborhood include Pletterijkade, which serves as one of the main entry points into the city center, Lekstraat and Schenkviaduct leading directly to Rijswijkseplein. On the fringe of this neighborhood are numerous large-scale developments underway, such as the 43-story Strijkijzer (completed in 2007), De Kroon residential tower (2011), and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2017). Furthermore, Spuikwartier and Wijnhavenkwartier will soon undergo revitalization with Nieuwe Haven serving as a route connecting directly with city center after 2019.
Rivierenbuurt is an older working-class neighborhood characterized by narrow streets, wider main roads, canals like Uilebomen and Boomsluiterskade and mostly single-family homes or apartment buildings with no high rise development. Residents typically travel to the city center for shopping, dining, and entertainment purposes. As it's geographically isolated, Rivierenbuurt serves mainly as residential area with only small-scale businesses operating there. Rivierenbuurt was once home to several state printing presses on Boomsluiterskade/Christoffel Plantijnstraat, as well as beer breweries on Zwetstraat and Scheepmakersstraat, and margarine factories on Scheepmakersstraat. Both owner-occupied and rental properties can be found here, which can be divided into three distinct areas - Uilebomen, Rivierenbuurt-Noord and Rivierenbuurt-Zuid.
