The Hague's neighborhood of Nieuw Binckhorst takes its name from a castle that sits in the middle of the area. In the second half of the 20th Century, the area was predominantly an industrial and commercial district. Concrete plants still remain in the region today. Since 2009, the government of The Hague is working to replace businesses in the area by thousands of new houses.

Nieuw Binckhorst is roughly shaped like a rectangle from above. The area is bounded by the railway between The Hague, Gouda and Amsterdam, as well as the Broeksloot, Trekvliet, and the Amsterdam-Rotterdam railway. The neighborhood is also bordered by the Stationsbuurt and Laakkwartier neighborhoods in The Hague as well as Voorburg.

Nieuw Binckhorst, despite its ever-changing nature, is still an eclectic business district that includes warehouses, small garages, and other businesses. Some of the buildings that were once part of the Municipal Gas Factory are still visible in the area. There are also office buildings like KPN's and the former International Criminal Court building on Maanweg. The majority of small businesses are located in northern part of area. Binckhorstlaan is the main axis dividing the area into two. The government of The Hague refers to the Trekvlietzone as it has several small ports on one side. Binckhorsthaven is located on the other side, and two concrete plants for material handling are there. Binckhorst-Noord is the name of the part of the area closest to The Hague's center. In the corner nearest to the Voorburg station, you will find large office buildings that have more than 10 floors.
