The Hague's Kom Loosduinen neighborhood is known for its historical charm and convenient location. The neighborhood is bordered with several other areas, such as Morgenstond and Bouwlust, Kijkduin, Ockenburgh and Waldeck. Its heart, called Kom van Loosduinen is situated around Loosduinse Hoofdstraat en Oude Haagweg and dates from before the annexation. The 1920s saw the completion of two new neighborhoods. After that, construction slowed down until the 1960s. The area between Leyweg en Lozerlaan, which was built over the next few decades, became increasingly developed. However, Houtwijk saw the most rapid expansion in the 1980s.
Loosduinen's transportation is another important feature. It dates back to 1882, when the first steam tram was built. The WSM operated line connected Loosduinen with Den Haag Lijnbaan and then Naaldwijk,'s-Gravezande, and Naaldwijk. In 1888, the line reached Hoek Van Holland and Delft. In 1888, a summer line to Kijkduin opened. This line was discontinued by 1928. Tramstraat is a remnant of that era. In 1932 the line between Den Haag en Loosduinen became a bus route, and in 1968 passenger transport was stopped. Goods trains continued to service Loosduinen up until 1983 when the area was once again served by a tramline.
