The area was previously monofunctional, but since 2015, it has been repurposed to include nightclubs and restaurants. The area between the Johan Cruijff Arena and Academic Medical Center in the north, along with the west bank metro line and the Holterbergweg on the east, will be transformed into a residential/work area. Hondsrugweg in the central area, which connects Johan Cruijff Arena and IKEA Amsterdam will be transformed into an extensive Hondsrugpark. The name of the transformed district is under consideration.
