Driemond is located in the Dutch city of Amsterdam in the province North Holland. The neighborhood is home to about 620 homes and 1,600 people. The neighborhood is bordered to the north by the Diemerbos, south by the Gein River, west by the Gaasperpark, and east by the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal. The municipality of Weesp was merged with the municipality Amsterdam on March 24, 2022. Driemond and Weesp are now a new urban district within Amsterdam. They have their own governing body and special status.

Driemond's history is closely linked to the development and growth of the surrounding area. Driemond belonged to the municipality Weesperkarspel until August 1966. It was then temporarily assigned to Amsterdam for 12 year before it was officially annexed by 1978. Driemond was incorporated into the Amsterdam-Zuidoost area in 1987. The name "Driemond", which is derived from three rivers that meet in the village, is a combination of the Gein River, the Gaasp River, and the Smal Weesp. These rivers were part of the Weespertrekvaart which was in turn part of what was known as the Keulsche Vaart.

Driemond began as a hamlet in the municipality of Weesperkarspel. It was known as De Geinbrug. Driemond was given village status in 1961 due to the significant growth of the village. The name "Driemond", which was originally the name of an estate on the Gein River near the confluence between the three rivers, is now the Driemond Cemetery. This grand estate's fountain can be found at Frankendael Park, in the Watergraafsmeer.

In the late 1980s, new housing was built in place of two former factories, Koninklijke P. Sluis (1915-1980), and Otten, which produced linseed oils.
