Lombardijen, a Rotterdam neighborhood located in IJsselmonde, is part of the municipality. It was built in the 1960s and has been part of IJsselmonde municipality since 1991. More than half the population is single or older than 50.

The neighborhood lies west of the Rotterdam - Dorcht train line. It is within a one-kilometer radius around Rotterdam Lombardijen station or within 700 meters of the intersection between Spinozaweg Molenvliet and Pascalweg. Lombardijen is also home to two tram lines, the 2 and 20, and several bus routes that connect to Zuidplein. Molenvliet and Spinozaweg are the main roads that connect the area to the southern Ring Road.

Lombardijen is divided into five neighborhoods: Homerusbuurt (Homerus), Karl Marxbuurt (Karl Marxbuurt), Molierebuurt (Molierebuurt), Smeetsland and Zenobuurt. The neighborhood is divided into two industrial zones: Laagjes to the north, and Hordijk West or v.d. Woudensland is located in the southern part of the neighborhood. This area is primarily made up of row houses and apartment blocks. Lombardijen is also home to a nursing facility, the service flat "t Lichtpunt", several other complexes for elderly people, as well as schools, churches and a library. Lombardijen's history dates back to early 1800s. It was originally a small farm near the Rotterdam Zuid crematorium, and near the de Kooi petting zoo. Lombardijen became a municipality in 1817. However, it was administered by IJsselmonde before and after that date. Lombardijen became a municipality in 1838. Lombardijen is possibly related to Lombardy in Italy, since the word "Lommerd", which is a modernized version of "Lombard," is present in Lombardijen.
