Tuindorp Oostzaan, a neighborhood located in Amsterdam-Noord within the Dutch province Noord-Holland. The neighborhood was named after Oostzaan village and municipality, located north of it, but no longer adjacent. In between, the A10 highway and Oostzanerwerf neighbourhood (the ring road around Amsterdam) can be found. The city neighbourhood is not a part of the village.
Tuindorp Oostzaan was one of the Garden Cities that were built in Amsterdam between the First World War and the Second World War to combat the decaying working-class areas in the center. The city also wanted to accommodate the increasing number of workers in the shipbuilding and new industries on the north bank of the IJ, close to their workplace, so that they would not need to build a costly river link between the center of Amsterdam and Amsterdam-Noord. The Garden Cities in Watergraafsmeer and Nieuwendam are a result of the progressive aldermen Floor Wibaut, Monne de Miranda and Arie Keppler, director of Amsterdam Municipal Housing Service.
