Spaarndammerbuurt and Zeeheldenbuurt are two neighborhoods located in Amsterdam's West district in Noord-Holland, Netherlands, that are named after three streets: Spaarndammerstraat, Spaarndammerdijk and Spaarndammerplantsoen that form their northern and eastern boundaries respectively. To the south lies Hembrug - former railway track that ran to Zaandam via former Hembrug. Prior to 2010, these neighborhoods formed Westerpark District comprising Spaarndammerbuurt, Staatsliedenbuurt Zeeheldenbuurt Frederik Hendrikbuurt which formed all four neighborhoods as Westerpark District between 1990-2010.
Spaarndammerbuurt began construction at the end of the 19th century; streets within its boundaries are named for places west and northwest of Amsterdam as well as sailors, places in northern Europe, and active Dutch communists.
Workers' houses were intended for port workers who found employment nearby, such as Pierre Cuypers' Maria Magdalenakerk dating from 1891; it became the focal point of the neighborhood due to its dilapidated state and was demolished and replaced by Domela Nieuwenhuisplantsoen in 1972. Spaardammerstraat is the central shopping street that runs from Spaarndammerdijk/Tasmanstraat all the way up to Domela Nieuwenhuisplantsoen; Michel de Klerk designed worker houses featuring Amsterdam School architectural styles which can be seen on Nassauplein.
