The Jordaan neighborhood, situated at the center of Amsterdam, is known for its charming canals and cozy atmosphere. Specifically, its borders consist of Prinsengracht, Brouwersgracht, Lijnbaansgracht and Leidsegracht canals - although some argue its southern border lies at Passeerdersgracht canal.

Jordaan neighborhood was famous for its many canals, of which eleven can be found: Palmgracht, Goudsbloemgracht, Lindengracht, Anjeliersgracht, Egelantiersgracht, Bloemgracht Rozengracht Lauriergracht Elandsgracht Looiersgracht Passeerdersgracht Leliegracht canal borders Jordaan and also has a flower name, though it does not belong to Jordaan canals. Goudsbloemgracht was filled in in 1857 and later renamed Willemsstraat; Anjeliersgracht became Westerstraat 1862. Elandsgracht was filled in 1891 due to poor water quality and to create space for expanding traffic; Lindengracht and Palmgracht followed suit two years later, in 1895 and 1897 respectively. Rozengracht had already been filled by 1889, serving as an essential connection between city center and neighborhoods west of Singelgracht canal.
Jordaan is well known for its canals, "hofjes", and forts. As of 2017, there were nineteen "hofjes", the oldest being the Sint Andrieshofje, dating back to 1614 on Egelantiersgracht 105; other noteworthy "hofjes" include Huiszittenweduwenhof and Oudezijds Achterburgwalhofje.
