Oud-West was a former neighborhood in Amsterdam that was integrated into the new West district in 2010. Its borders include Singelgracht (the boundary with Amsterdam-Centrum), Vondelpark (boundary with Amsterdam-Zuid), Kostverlorenvaart (which borders former De Baarsjes neighborhood), Hugo de Grootgracht and Hugo de Grootgracht - and had a population of 31,741 at 2003 census with an area covering 1.70km2. Although Oud-West had 177 nationalities represented in 2007 alone, it should not be classified as an exclusively black neighborhood. Political debate usually centers on benign topics like whether trees should be removed to create safer bike paths and whether the former tram depot on Tollensstraat should be renovated. Oud-West refers broadly to all prewar neighborhoods in West such as De Baarsjes, Westerpark and part of Bos en Lommer.
The neighborhood is divided into various sub-neighborhoods, such as Bellamybuurt, Borgerbuurt, Cremerbuurt, Da Costabuurt Helmersbuurt and Vondelparkbuurt. Collectively known as Kinkerbuurt; while Cremerbuurt Helmersbuurt Vondelbuurt are collectively known as Overtoombuurt.
