Parking near Duinzigt

Duinzigt, a neighborhood in The Hague's Benoordenhout borough, is named after the former country estate of the same name. The neighborhood is named after Duinzigt which was a country estate that belonged to Wassenaar from 1884 until 1935. The estate was destroyed in 1935 and the area was developed further. Duinzigt borders the Van Alkemadelaan and Landscheidingsweg as well as the municipality of Wassenaar and the Clingendael Estate. The neighborhood is divided into two sections. There are only three-story houses and apartments on the Van Alkemadelaan side. In the late 1970s high-rises were built on the Wassenaar-side, where liberal and well-off residents reside. Between these two areas, the Willem Royaardsplein is a rectangular, tree-lined square surrounded by restaurants, shops and an ABN Amro branch. There is also a fishstand, a flowerstand, and a Turkish sandwich stand. A fitness center is also available. The small shopping center opened in 1979.

Duinzigt is also home to the Huis op de bunker, and The American Protestant church of The Hague. The Royal Hague Golf & Country Club used to be located here (until World War II). The derelict gate leading to the estate is still visible on the Oude Waalsdorperweg. Approximately where the Saffier-Maison Gaspard de Coligny now stands, was the estate. The golf club was farther away. After the Germans dug up tank trenches, there was little left of the golf course during World War II. One of the old holes is still visible from the Ruychrocklaan. It stretches into Clingendael. The hockey fields of HDM and the rugby fields Haagsche Rugby Club are located adjacent to Duinzigt. Duindigt is located one kilometer away.

Two notable buildings were built in the area over the past few years: Mr. Visserhuis is a Jewish assisted-living center with 36 apartments and 30 beds. It was completed in 2011. The Bouwmeester is an apartment complex built on the former site of an old gasoline station. It was completed in 2013.

A train line connected The Hague to Leiden and Amsterdam between 1908 and 1952. Eventually, the line was closed and all tracks removed. The nearest station to Duinzigt is Laan van NOI. It is only a 15 minute walk away.
