Overtoomse Veld, a neighborhood of Amsterdam located in Westelijke Tuinsteden is the name given to a part of the city. Overtoomse Veld derives from the area located west of Overtoomse Buurt and near Overtoomse Sluis. This area used to be home to many markets gardens before the construction of western garden cities began in the 1950s. This was Amsterdam's "vegetable gardens".
As it existed before the 1990 establishment of the city districts, the neighborhood consisted of two parts. The buildings built from 1940 to 1950 between Kostverlorenvaart, Orteliuskade, Postjeskade, and Westlandgracht and the open constructions that were built between 1955 and 70 west of this area. In the 1920s, after the annexation by Sloten of the city of Sloten, neighborhoods were constructed around Mercatorplein Surinameplein Hoofddorpplein. In the 1950s the remaining market garden was cleared, and then the Overtoomse Veld neighbourhood was built. The Rembrandtpark followed.
Overtoomse Veld's current neighborhood is bordered by the Jan Evertsenstraat in the north, and the Sloterweg in the south. The Postjeswetering, Westlandgracht and Ringspoorbaan form the eastern boundary. On the east side, the Rembrandtpark separates the closed pre-war development from the open post-war development.
