Stadionbuurt, situated in Amsterdam's Zuid district and named for Harry Elte's national stadium from 1914 to 1929 located near Jason- and Argonautenstraat between 1914 and 1929; after its demolition after the 1928 Olympic Games to make way for housing. Today it borders Noorder Amstelkanaal, Apollolaan, Olympiaplein Parnassusweg Zuider Amstelkanaal Amstelveenseweg Ringweg A10 Schutsluis Schinkel Olympiakanaal Stadiongracht Amstelveenseweg Cornelis Krusemanstraat Hendrik Jacobszstraat covering an area of 109.14 ha.
The neighborhood can be roughly divided into three areas, including: Bertelmanpleinbuurt and Marathonbuurt (north of Stadionweg), with many small social rental homes from the 1920s and 1930s; Van Tuyll van Serooskerkenbuurt (south of Stadionweg), consisting primarily of private rental homes but containing some owner-occupied houses; Van Tuyll van Serooskerkenbuurt, which houses mostly private rental homes as well as a minority of owner-occupied homes built between 2004 and 2008; lastly, you'll encounter areas west of Amstelveenseweg and south of Olympiakanaal that contain houseboat colonial houseboat colonies anchored at IJsbaanpad containing houseboat colonial houseboat colony as well as Olympisch Kwartier with its over 900 apartments constructed between 2004 to 2008 where all these locations meet.
As of January 1, 2014, this neighborhood was home to 11,342 people living in 6,500 households. More than half the homes are rented from housing corporations; only 13% are owner-occupied; over 80% of homes are smaller than 80 square meters. It was designed with ambitious intent by Arie Keppler from Gemeentelijke Woningdienst Amsterdam with houses and street walls integrated cohesively into a cohesive design inspired by German urban planners' "einheitliche Blockfront" concept.
