De Heeg is one of Maastricht's 44 official neighborhoods located in its southeast. This neighborhood is well-known for its spacious layout and abundant green spaces, making it popular with young families. De Heeg's borders include Randwyck to its west; Heer to its north; Vroendaal in its northeast corner; rural Maastricht area on its eastern edge and Eijsden-Margraten (Gronsveld) Municipality to its south.
De Heeg is home to several amenities, such as the Roserije shopping center and neighborhood center (de Boeckel). There is also an IKC for kids here as well as multiple sports clubs and shooting ranges. De Boeckel serves as its neighborhood center; other than this and one cafe located inside an old sports hall nearby, no restaurants or cafes exist within De Heeg proper. Furthermore, multiple religious societies operate here with Roman Catholic St Monulfus and Gondulfus church situated close by serving as its spiritual heart.
Gronsveld's Torenmolen windmill stands directly to the east of De Heeg and can be found in Maas Valley at an altitude of 60 meters, giving this neighborhood its name. Slopes leading up to Margraten Plateau offer views over Savels forest while on either side are industrial areas as well as Heugem's industrial development; to the north and south, De Heeg is bordered by Heer and Gronsveld respectively, further expanding this wide valley.
