Belfort is a postwar residential neighborhood situated in Maastricht's western sector and one of 44 official neighborhoods within its limits. Well known for its green spaces and typical 1960s garden layout, it borders Pottenberg to the north, Brusselsepoort to the northeast, Mariaberg to the southeast, Daalhof to the south and Hazendans to its west.
Belfort is comprised of four sectors, separated by its primary streets: Gewantmakersdreef and Keurmeestersdreef. This neighborhood features single-family homes and low-rise apartment buildings that typically are three or four stories high; most houses in Belfort are predominantly white. Belfort's former parish church - St Joseph Church was constructed between 1975-1976 by architect Ben Verhey; however due to decreasing church attendance it was sold off in 2022; its future use remains uncertain.
At the center of Belfort is its shopping center on Keurmeestersdreef; other amenities include John F. Kennedy School (primary), community center 't Fortsje and Catholic parish (without its own church building as of 2022). Unfortunately there are no sports facilities nearby; Brusselsepoort offers one close by while Belfort can easily be reached through public transit (Arriva bus).
