Parking near Frontenkwartier

Frontenkwartier is one of Maastricht's 44 neighborhoods. Partially converging with Frontenpark, this neighborhood lies on the west bank of Meuse River northwest of city center Maastricht. Brusselsepoort to its west; Statenkwartier to its east; Boschpoort northeast; Bosscherveld Belvedere north and Caberg to its northwest form its borders.

Maastricht's Frontenkwartier area boasts a long and rich history as part of Maastricht's fortifications for centuries, featuring numerous sieges by attackers trying to take over western outer fortifications to attack western city walls. Hoge and Lage Fronten can still be seen here with Line van Dumoulin (rebuilt 1772-77) located southward; Nieuwe Bossche Fronten (renewed in 1816-22).

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, several industries were established in the Nieuwe Bossche Fronten area of Leiden. One such endeavor involved converting part of its wet moat into an industrial harbor in 1885. Maastricht Boschpoort opened for business here in 1903 but closed down in 1954. Since then, only some remnants of this area remain; these include Cokes factory, Rubber factory Radium, Gashouder and former Havenkom (currently two), located mostly within Frontenkwartier. Rubber Resources relocated to Beatrixhaven in 2013, while development on Frontenpark began simultaneously - connecting Hoge and Lage Fronten (along with Fort Willem I and surrounding area) into one cultural park and nature reserve on Northwest edge of city center.

As of 2018, the Frontenkwartier offers various amenities, including nature, recreation, culture, work and parking. As it is anticipated that three main functions of this area - nature, culture and recreation - will be further strengthened: Frontenpark is a key contributor here offering plenty of leisure, sports and cultural experiences.
