Proosdijveld refers to land once owned by the Proosdij of St. Servatius. Blauwdorp got its name because St. Servatius built several homes here; thus giving rise to its nickname in Dutch: Blue Town. Most street names in Blauwdorp refer to tradesmen or artisans while those surrounding Mariaberg church are named for flowers or plants while Trichterveld refers to former Dutch India locations.
