Brusselsepoort neighborhood is located in Maastricht's western area. It is one the 44 official neighbourhoods within the municipality Maastricht. The name "Brusselsepoort", which was partially built in the early twentieth century, is derived the medieval city gates, "Brusselsepoort," that stood at the end the Brusselsestraat up until 1868.
Brusselsepoort is bordered by the Frontenkwartier in Maastricht, the Center of Maastricht, Mariaberg, Belfort, Pottenberg, Malpertuis, Caberg, and Pottenberg to the West. Koningin Emmaplein and Sint Annalaan in the east, Brouwersweg in the west, Beeldsnijdersdreef on the south, Porseleinstraat and Nobellaan to the north are the main borders with the other neighborhoods.
Brusselsepoort is home to several regional and interregional facilities, such as a large shopping mall, Brusselse Poort. This center attracts tourists from all over the region. Maastricht Court is the former Sint Annadal Hospital. The Teikyo University used to have a campus at another part of this complex. Zuyd University of Applied Sciences is located at Brusselseweg and Bonnefanten College on Eenhoornsingel. In the area, there is a Roman Catholic Church (Sint-Annakerk), a Evangelical Church (Evangelical Community Maastricht), a Turkish-Dutch Mosque (Tevhid Mosque), as well as a Moroccan-Dutch Mosque (El Fath Mosque). Visitors from the entire Maastricht Region flock to the neighborhood. In the area, there is an elementary school called Odaschool as well as various shops and restaurants.
Brusselsepoort can be easily reached by car and public transport. Arriva city busses stop in the area. Brusselsepoort lies at the intersection of Via Regia (one of the main roads into Belgium) and Sint Annalaan, as well as Statensingel, which are both busy streets. Koningin-Emmaplein is a pivot point. Parking is often a problem due to its proximity to the centre, the Brusselse Poort Shopping Center, and other facilities.
The Neo-Byzantine St. Lambertus Church, designed by Hubert van Groenendael in 1914, is the architecturally most impressive building of the neighborhood. After years of neglect, the monumental church was recently restored by a housing company.
