Boschpoort, a Dutch neighborhood, is located in Maastricht. The name refers to Maastricht's former city gate, the Boschpoort. Boschpoort, located north of Maastricht's city center is isolated due to the presence of both water and industry. The river Maas runs to the east and the Zuid-Willemsvaart is located west. Zuid-Willemsvaart is the border that separates Boschpoort and Frontenkwartier from Belvedere. Boschpoort is bordered to the south by the Boschstraatkwartier, located in the center of the city, and the northern part of the Dutch-Belgian Border, which includes the Belgian municipality Lanaken, on the other side Maas.

The water is a feature that defines Boschpoort. It includes the Maas and Zuid Willemsvaart as well as the Voedingskanaal. North of the Verbindingskanaal, there is still a lot of undeveloped land. The Bosscherweg is a major road that runs parallel to Zuid Willemsvaart and leads to's Hertogenbosch as well as to the Belgian cities of Smeermaas Lanaken Zutendaal and Maasmechelen.

Boschpoort, historically, was part of Maastricht's fortifications in the 17th century. In the 18th century, a section of the neighborhood was shown on the Maquette of Maastricht as an old river arm or overflow on the site of the current Verbindingskanaal-Afvoerkanaal. Also clearly visible were the Bosscherweg, and the Oude Smeermaserweg. The fortifications of the north side were completely renovated in 1816-22 and named Nieuwe Bossche Fronten. From 1822-26 the Zuid-Willemsvaart, which created three arched passageways within the fortifications, was excavated. In 1823, the Dutche Hoek, or a group of workers' houses, was constructed near the canal. These temporary houses were demolished only in 1965. The Hasselt-Maastricht Railway was constructed parallel to the canal in 1855-56. On the opposite side, the Bosscherweg underwent renovations. The Voedingskanaal that provides water to the Zuid-Willemsvaart dates back to 1867 but was probably renovated around 1930.
